Karatsu potter, Mayumi Hamano

“Hagiyakiya x Multiply”

This “Hagiyakiya webshop” was started because I took an interest in Japanese ceramic pottery culture.
This Japanese pottery culture was growing up with Japanese Matcha Tea ceramony, call “Sado” culture.
Tea masters wanted excelent “Tea tools” for example Teabowl, Water container, and the potter has created more excelent tools for the demand.
They were always going to make better things, and also, the potter is proud to be a potter with like this culture.

We have been introduced you Hagi ware works as our pottery culture of hometown.
From now, we are intoroducing potter and their works to all over the world with Hagi works through the our homepage as an exhibition.
Before starting the exhibition, we are talking about Kilns and artists who are joining our special event.

Mayumi Hamano at Karatsu

I met Ms. Mayumi Hamano, one of the potters I have been wanted to meet since I saw the works on Instagram and on the web.
Although our shop handles Hagiyaki mainly in Yamaguchi Prefecture, most of the potters who are introduced in our shop are men, and female potters can be said to be very valuable existence.
Women’s making ceramics are slightly different from men’s feeling, and we can feel many different senses such as kindness and cuteness are felt in the work.
Even though Ms. Mayumi Hamano’s works were also felt strongly by Ms. Mayumi Hamano’s sense, as far as I saw in the picture, this is why I definitely wanted to see her.

When I see her at the first time, she doesn’t seem that she is always doing work such as touching the cray or does woodfiring.
Even in a stylish place, she is a person who gives the impression that it is shining all the time.

But when I actually met her and listen to her story, I was changed her impression to being a very enthusiastic potter.
The other ceramic artist who knows Mayumi Hamano and her pottery friendship says about them “They are pottery mania”.
She goes through museums and historical place it related to ceramic, she is constantly exploring materials and techniques to make her own work she is seeking.

Ms. Mayumi Hamano faces her work seriously and truly enjoy it.
There was a lot to be learned about attitude towards work for me.
