Popular Bizenyaki potter, Takashi Baba’s woodfiring.
“Hagiyakiya x Multiply”
This “Hagiyakiya webshop” was started because I took an interest in Japanese ceramic pottery culture.
This Japanese pottery culture was growing up with Japanese Matcha Tea ceramony, call “Sado” culture.
Tea masters wanted excelent “Tea tools” for example Teabowl, Water container, and the potter has created more excelent tools for the demand.
They were always going to make better things, and also, the potter is proud to be a potter with like this culture.
We have been introduced you Hagi ware works as our pottery culture of hometown.
From now, we are intoroducing potter and their works to all over the world with Hagi works through the our homepage as an exhibition.
Before starting the exhibition, we are talking about Kilns and artists who are joining our special event.
Young Bizenware potter, Takashi Baba.
I have met with Mr. Takashi Baba, a popular potter and momentum among young artists of Bizen-ware.
For Baba Takashi, it may have been a bit inconvenient for him, but for me this time it was lucky to have the timing of kiln firing so I took a while to see the situation.
Neighborhood and Takashi’s friend Bizen young pottery, Yuta Shibaoka also came to support the kiln firing.
Although there are things that I visit the kiln firing at the climbing kiln of Hagi-ware, it is the first time to visit the Woodfiring visit of Bizen for me.
The works were putted just beside the fire door bottom of the climbing kiln.
Hagi potters throw firewood with underhand when they put wood from the one side of kiln, but in the Bizen kiln of Mr. Takashi Baba he put firewood from both sides, this is the difference thing from the firing method of Hagiyaki.
Above all, “Senba” like a scoop with a long handle, the work of “Sumiire” putting firewood as ash on the works was very interesting.
By doing this “Sumiire” ash putting, it seems that the ash-covered work becomes oxygen-deficient and the reduction flame makes blue color etc.
Mr. Takashi Baba’s blue of ceramic was made in this way.
I also talked to Mr. Takashi Baba’s mother about the work and various story in the gallery.
Takashi Baba’s exhibition will be held in early 2019 of Hagiyakiya Multiply, so please look forward to it.
