Tanba-ware kiln Kaneto, Keiichi Shimizu.

“Hagiyakiya x Multiply”

This “Hagiyakiya webshop” was started because I took an interest in Japanese ceramic pottery culture.
This Japanese pottery culture was growing up with Japanese Matcha Tea ceramony, call “Sado” culture.
Tea masters wanted excelent “Tea tools” for example Teabowl, Water container, and the potter has created more excelent tools for the demand.
They were always going to make better things, and also, the potter is proud to be a potter with like this culture.

We have been introduced you Hagi ware works as our pottery culture of hometown.
From now, we are intoroducing potter and their works to all over the world with Hagi works through the our homepage as an exhibition.
Before starting the exhibition, we are talking about Kilns and artists who are joining our special event.

Keiichi Shimizu at Kaneto kiln in Hyogo Tachikui.

I have met Keiichi Shimizu.

The village of Tambaware, along the main road crossing the street of Tachikui area, it is easy to drop in by a car,
He is a potter who is well known the domestic and overseas. His works are introduced even though it is the Touching Stone gallery and Cavin Morris gallery in the United States.

He was invited as an invited potter for “From Meiji 150 Years – 25th Anniversary Exhibition of the Hagi Ceramic Art Association -2018 Hagi” held at the Urakami Art Museum in Hagi City in early 2018. He is a pottery that I wanted to visit after seeing various works on the Internet and on the works that had been exhibited.
Every work has its presence and power at its edge, and even in a solid with a distortion, I feel very attractive to the style that gives a strong impression of rising up straight.

Since he is a popular artist and a potter who is reaching a period of maturity, I was very nervous by inflating various imaginations about personality until I met him.
As soon as I met him, I was noticed that concern was wrong.
In contrast to the powerfulness of his works, the atmosphere in which he gave people is very calm and he talked to me so politely.
His works show a certain presence feeling in the impact but also it does not claim too much. I could feel a same things from his personality.

After talking about the whole thing, I saw his tea room, the workshop and the climbing kiln.
Because the history of Tamba is old, it seems that the wood kiln has changed its shape according to the era, it seems short as a characteristic of the Tamba-ware kiln which is presently seen. Its height is almost the same as the height of two vertically stacked jars.

I got really fun time.
