Karatsu ware potter, Yotaro Fujinoki. Exhibition.
From October 4th to 13th, we will hold an exhibition of young Karatsu yaki potter, Yotaro Fujinoki.
Karatsu ware is so popular in Japan and all over the world now.
Many young people practice in the Karatsu area under the apprenticeship system as yet, Karatsu pottery area is still booming in Japan.
Yotaro Fujinoki is one of the most prominent artists in Karatsu, Karatsu yaki pottery area.
He trained in the Dohei kiln under his father, Dohei Fujinoki, and continue to present various works to the world, including the traditional techniques of Karatsu, as well as shaped works made with his own forming techniques.
In this exhibition, we will introduce a number of works those can understand you current Yotaro Fujinoki, such as tableware, tea bowls and modeling works.
Profile of Yotaro Fujinoki
1981 Born in Karatsu City.
2000 Graduated Saga Kita High School Art Course.
2006 Graduated Tama Art University, majoring in oil painting (contemporary art).
2007 Started Training in Dohei kiln.
2010 Started making his own works at Dohei kiln
“Karatsu ware was at its peak from the Momoyama period to the early Edo period. At that time, Japan has been greatly influenced by diplomacy with Korea and China regarding tea ceremony culture, especially tea utensils.
I’d like to learn from Kogaratsu -Old Karatsu- and Chanoyu –ceramics for tea Japanese ceremony-, and thank a lot of things from nature, I always want to seek the meaning of make.”
