Karatsu-ware pottery, Sakurei Okamoto
Sakurei Okamoto in Saga prefecture.
“Hagiyakiya x Multiply”
This “Hagiyakiya webshop” was started because I took an interest in Japanese ceramic pottery culture.
This Japanese pottery culture was growing up with Japanese Matcha Tea ceramony, call “Sado” culture.
Tea masters wanted excelent “Tea tools” for example Teabowl, Water container, and the potter has created more excelent tools for the demand.
They were always going to make better things, and also, the potter is proud to be a potter with like this culture.
We have been introduced you Hagi ware works as our pottery culture of hometown.
From now, we are intoroducing potter and their works to all over the world with Hagi works through the our homepage as an exhibition.
Before starting the exhibition, we are talking about Kilns and artists who are joining our special event.
This time to the place of Karatsu-ware Potter Mr. Sakurei Okamoto.
A Hagi-ware potter taught Mr. Sakurei Okamoto as his favorite potter.
There is his kiln in the very deep mountains.
Because potters burn a firewood kiln, houses and galleries will necessarily be in the mountains.
Despite the sudden visit, Mr. and Ms. Okamoto and Mr. Ikegaya of the previous guest “Seven Hills Adventure” also welcomed me wonderfully.
I am sorry I disturbed valuable time with Mr. Ikegaya and Mrs. Okamoto.
Mr. Ikegaya is a person who is doing a job that looks like a fun.
His company is a company planning outdoor in the suburbs, such as trail run.
If you live in Tokyo, Kanto area and like outdoor, please visit this site by all means.

Mr. Sakurei Okamoto showed me his works, and also tells a lot about Karatsu and his works in the reception room.
In artists, craftsmen, and ceramists I am always puzzled how old and old are called young, medium and veteran from the age to the age.
I was able to feel the works are so powerful just by seeing those. His outstanding technique and experience those have been accumulated for many years are transmitted.
During my stay, I’ve heard stories about pottery and Karatsu, and I also see the old tea bowls of Karatsu, the climbing kilns and his working place.
I experienced that all the warm personality of Mr. Sakurei Okamoto, the powerfulness hidden in the inside, and the kindness of the beautiful wife who supports his work, and I had a wonderful time.
